Detailed Itinerary
DAY 01Arrival at Leh - Acclimatization Day
Altitude: 3,505 meters / 11,567 feet. On arrival at Kushok Bakula Airport Leh (3,500m above sea level), transfer to hotel and check-in. Half day rest for acclimatization - EXTREMELY IMPORTANT for high altitude. Evening drive to visit Shanti Stupa - a Buddhist white-domed stupa on hilltop in Changspa, built in 1991 by Japanese Buddhist Bhikshu Gyomyo Nakamura as part of Peace Pagoda mission. Later visit Leh Palace with panoramic city views. Evening walk around local market. Dinner and overnight stay at Hotel in Leh.
DAY 02Sham Valley Sightseeing - Magnetic Hill & Monasteries
Full day excursion to Sham Valley. Visit Hall of Fame - constructed by Indian Army to commemorate sacrifice of soldiers during Indo-Pak wars. Visit Kali Mata Temple, followed by Spituk Gompa - an 11th century monastery structure. Next visit majestic Gurudwara Patthar Sahib, nestled deep in Himalayas, constructed by Lamas of Leh in 1517 to honour visit of Guru Nanak Dev - founder of Sikh faith. Witness the magic of Magnetic Hill that defies law of gravity - when vehicle is parked on neutral gear on this metallic road, it slides uphill! Drive through picturesque landscape to reach confluence of Indus and Zanskar Rivers. Return to Leh. Dinner and overnight stay at Hotel in Leh.
DAY 03Leh to Nubra Valley via Khardung La Pass
Distance: 125 Kms | Drive: 5-6 hours | Khardung La: 18,820 ft / 5,550 meters. Morning drive to Nubra Valley over the highest motorable pass in the world (Khardung La). Exciting journey through serpentine roads leads to Khardung La Pass at awesome height of 5,550 meters. Stop at pass for photographs of fantastic views. Valley is situated on old caravan route at confluence of Shayok and Nubra rivers. Visit charming Deskit - tiny capital of Nubra. Visit Deskit Gompa perched on rocky spur with commanding view of entire valley. See stunning 106-feet high statue of Maitreya Buddha atop hill. From Deskit drive to Hunder past sand dunes. Get acquainted with famous Bactrian camels - shaggy double-humped animals (camel ride optional, direct payment). Dinner and overnight in camp/hotel at Nubra.
DAY 04Nubra - Full Day Excursion to Turtuk Border Village
Full day excursion from Nubra to remote village of Turtuk - one of Ladakh's most fascinating and recently opened destinations. Travel through stunning mountain landscapes and traditional villages in region once part of Baltistan. Recaptured by India in 1971, Turtuk offers unique cultural experience with warm locals, rich history, and scenic beauty. This border village has fascinating story - "On night of December 13, 1971, people went to sleep in Pakistan and woke up in India next morning." After exploring this historically significant village with its apricot orchards and unique Balti culture, return to Nubra Valley by evening. Overnight stay at camp/hotel in Nubra.
DAY 05Nubra to Pangong Lake via Shayok Route
Distance: 165 Kms | Drive: 5-6 hours | Pangong Lake: 14,500 ft. After breakfast drive to Pangong Lake via Shayok shortcut - a beautiful route. Road follows Shayok River, climbs up mountain before descending into Shayok village. Takes less than hour to reach Shayok - a rather big village surrounded by barren mountains in picturesque setting. Continue via Tang Tse to reach Spangmik (Pangong). Afternoon reach Pangong Lake - famous high-altitude lake spanning India and China. The 134 km long lake's crystal clear brackish water changes colors throughout the day - from deep blue to turquoise to green. Enjoy stunning beauty of this spectacular lake. Dinner and overnight stay in camp at Pangong.
DAY 06Pangong to Hanle via Chushul & Tsaga La Pass
Distance: 120 Kms | Drive: 5-6 hours | Tsaga La: 15,200 ft. After breakfast, embark on scenic drive to Hanle, crossing Chushul Village and Tsaga La Pass (15,200 ft) along the way. Hanle is renowned for Indian Astronomical Observatory - one of highest observatories in world at 4,500 meters, offering spectacular star-gazing opportunities. Historically, it is believed that King Sengge Namgyal passed away here while returning from expedition against Mongols. Experience warmth of Ladakhi hospitality by staying with locals at guesthouse or homestay. The remote village offers pristine dark skies perfect for astronomy. Overnight stay in Hanle.
DAY 07Hanle - Excursion to Umling La Pass (World's Highest Road)
Distance: 80 km | Drive: 2-3 hours each way | Umling La: 19,300 feet! After breakfast, set out for thrilling excursion to UMLING LA PASS - the WORLD'S HIGHEST MOTORABLE ROAD at breathtaking altitude of 19,300 feet (5,883 meters)! Enjoy exhilarating 2-3 hour drive each way through otherworldly high-altitude landscapes with snow-capped peaks, pristine valleys, and extreme terrain. This is ultimate achievement for adventure seekers and a once-in-lifetime experience. The oxygen is thin, temperature is cold, but the accomplishment and views are absolutely unforgettable. After returning to Hanle, spend evening at leisure exploring local village and experiencing tranquil Ladakhi lifestyle. Overnight stay in Hanle.
DAY 08Hanle to Leh via Tsomoriri Lake & Chumathang Hot Springs
Drive: 6-7 hours. After breakfast, begin journey back to Leh. En-route visit magnificent Tsomoriri Lake - a high-altitude lake at 15,075 ft, known for its pristine beauty and rare wildlife including black-necked cranes, Tibetan gazelles, and kiang (Tibetan wild ass). The lake is surrounded by barren mountains and offers spectacular views. Continue to Chumathang Hot Springs to relax and enjoy natural warm waters amidst stunning landscapes. These natural hot springs are believed to have medicinal properties. Continue journey to Leh. Evening at leisure for shopping or rest. Dinner and overnight stay at Hotel in Leh.
DAY 09Departure from Leh
After breakfast, checkout from hotel. Transfer to Kushok Bakula Airport for your onward journey.
